How Encounters Work
Starting from The Crucible (zone 4), every tile you move to has a small chance of triggering an elite encounter. These are powerful zone-specific predators that ambush you immediately. You cannot avoid the fight once triggered.
Combat
Elite encounters play out like boss fights with multiple phases. The elite grows stronger as its health drops. If you lose, you take damage but your gear is safe. If you win, you earn enhanced XP, scrap, and a chance at rare equipment.
Spawn Rate
Elite encounters only appear from The Crucible onwards. You will never see one in the first three zones. Even in eligible zones, they are exceedingly rare. Each zone has its own unique elite with distinct combat phases. Stay alert. The deeper you go, the more dangerous the ambushes.
Predator Ward
If elite encounters are too dangerous for your current level, craft a Predator Ward (Signal Etching, level 10). Using the ward suppresses all elite encounter spawns for 15 minutes, letting you explore safely.
