Weapon Requirements

Weapons and armor require specific combat skill levels to equip.

Skill-Gated Equipment

Every piece of equipment requires a minimum level in a specific combat skill. There are no restrictions based on build or background. If you have the skill level, you can equip it.

Weapon Categories

Melee weapons (swords, axes, hammers, daggers) require Attack level. Ranged weapons (bows, launchers, repeaters) require Ranged level. Staves require Signal level. Armor, helmets, boots, and shields require Fortitude level.

Training Into New Gear

If you find a powerful weapon you cannot equip, switch to a weapon of the same type and train the required skill through combat. Choose the right attack style to route XP into the skill you need. Once your skill meets the requirement, equip the upgrade and keep pushing.

Magic Weapons

Staves are magic weapons. They scale damage with Signal instead of Strength, ignore a portion of enemy armor, and gain accuracy from your Signal level. A dedicated caster channelling through a staff fights very differently from a melee fighter swinging a blade.
